Fire Systems Ltd awarded fire alarms and fire suppression systems for Bell Common Tunnel.
London-based fire alarm company, Fire Systems Ltd has completed work on a £160,000 contract to supply fire suppression and fire alarm systems for the M25 Bell Common Tunnel.
The contract was part of a larger £90.4m project by the Highways Agency to refurbish the tunnel, replacing mechanical and electrical equipment, which was installed when it was first built in the 1980s.
Costain, the main contractor on the project, brought Fire Systems Ltd in order to supply the fire detection. The contract involved installing, nine Novec fire suppression systems, three addressable fire alarm systems and four HSSD aspirating systems.
The fire suppression systems are protecting the LV switch rooms that operate the jet propelled engines that are required to vent the tunnel in the event of fire.
Fire Systems Ltd, had to work to a rigid programme but completed all works within the allocated programmed.
120,000 drivers typically travel through the M25 Bell Common Tunnel every day.
The multi-million pound upgrade to the Bell Common Tunnel on the M25 where it passes Epping has been officially opened by Transport minister Chris Mole and the Highways Agency's director of major projects south Peter Adams .
