Fire Risk Assessment?

No fire risk assessment by the people who are suppose to be setting an example.

No up-to-date fire risk assessment had been untaken and in place when the college – which uses the slogan ‘Unrivalled experience. Unequalled expertise’ – went up in smoke.

More than 60 fire fighters personnel were called to tackle the blaze last May which ruined 11 engines and causes more than £1.3million of damage. Can you believe this!

An inspector carried out a fire safety audit of the garage, which was completely destroyed. The Fire Service College said a number of shortcomings/failures were identified, including the absence of a current fire risk assessment, which have all since taken place and put right. It has been a legal requirement to do a ‘suitable and sufficient’ fire risk assessment on nearly every type of property in England and Wales since 2006.

The fire risk assessment covers all areas of fire protection within the property for example:

Fire Alarm,Emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, escape routes, potential fire hazards etc.

I have to ask the question? Did the premises have an operation fire alarm and who was responsible for the fire alarm maintenance?

‘It’s not exactly a new piece of legislation, so, yes, they should have carried out a fire risk assessment,’ said architect and safety expert.

‘If anything, their standards should be much higher than anyone else’s and they should be setting an example. At the end of the day, all right, there were fire engines lost and they can be replaced, but it could have resulted in lost of life.
