Fire Systems Ltd at Westfield Shopping Centre

Radio fire alarms save the day!

Going back to October 2008, with just three weeks to go before opening, Westfield London shopping centre in White City is a very busy and hectic place. Large white and black banners inside the mall proclaim the opening date of 30 October, and you can't help suspecting that they have been put there as motivational reminders of this impending deadline.

Despite the 7,500 workers dispersed over every inch of the development, it's going to be a frantic race to the finish.

Inside it's even more hectic as over 300 shops and restaurants-worth of shop fitters and specialist contractors fight for space. Wooden fins lining the ceiling of the food court area called the Balcony are still being installed and work has not started on some of the actual food kiosks.

Some of the shop was desperate to complete their works on time or risk financial penalties. With time short some of the shops began to realise they would not get their fire alarms designed and installed before the 30th October deadline. And without a fully commissioned fire alarm design and installed to the requirements as set out by Westfield, they would not be able to open.

Fire Systems Ltd, who were already on site acting as fire alarm consultants , became aware of the situation facing some of the units and were approached during the final days of the project. Fire Systems Ltd, renowned for their wireless fire alarms expertise, suggested a wireless fire alarm system or as is also known in the trade a Radio fire alarm system.

Fire Systems Ltd, design, installed and commissioned the fire alarm systems for 3 units. An individual unit was completed within one working day, to the relief of the shop owners involved.

Thereby, making the 30th October deadline.
